Doca de Santo Amaro, with capacity for 321 boats, is situated along one of the most important nodes of the city's transport system. Here converge almost all transports operating in Lisbon: buses, electric train and the daily traffic that enters in the urban and port areas through this door of the traditional city. Place of great industrial activity until the mid-twentieth century, Alcântara still keeps the memory of its recent past on the facades of the old industrial buildings that are today an integral part of the architectural heritage of the city. This concentration of productive and manufacturing activities is associated with the proximity of one of the main cluster of the Lisbon port activity, which is identified with the Alcântara dock space, its surroundings and the outside pier with good depth waters. The need to re-qualify the opening of the City to the river, favoring the people contact with the Tejo river, led to develop dynamic changes to the waterfront with the creation of public spaces in contact with water. In this context the surrounding areas have been improved, appearing different collective equipment directly or indirectly connected to the nautical activity.
